HALL SHEPHERDS ROLE

You have a special role to play in our goal of healing kids' hearts. You should reflect:
  • Flexibility
  • Compassion
  • Firm discipline
  • Gentleness
  • Wisdom
  • Patience
  • Love
Because of the nature of your responsibilities, it is absolutely essential that every Hall Shepherd complete an application for children's ministry and have a background check. Each Hall Shepherd must also attend the mandatory training sessions, and read the guidelines and discipline policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. wear a photo ID badge.
  2. walk the hallways monitoring the children's ministry areas including the community room, the Sunday school classes & the nursery rooms. Try to make eye contact with the teacher on occasion, so if they need you they can signal you inside.
  3. Report to Pastor Nate any information concerning volunteer absentees, discipline problems, illnesses, injuries, etc.

DISCIPLINE

Please note that we have standardized the discipline procedures from Bears up through 5th grade. Read the policy in order to be aware of these procedures.

Especially take note that if a child has three cards pulled, then they will be brought to the Hall Shepherd. You can let the child sit to cool down if necessary, before speaking with him about his behavior. Never leave a child (of any age or grade) unattended. Give him an opportunity to pray for forgiveness. Encourage him to apologize and ask forgiveness of the teacher after the class is over.

A take-home form is available in the CE office for the child's parent to sign and return. Do not dismiss the child, but escort him to his parents after the service to make sure they receive the form. Please also leave a note in Pastor Nate's box explaining why the child was taken from class.

ILLNESS & INJURY

If a child becomes ill they can lie down on the couch in the hallway. The parent should be contacted as soon as possible. Do not leave the child unattended.

If you have to clean up after an ill child, a bodily fluid clean-up kit is available in the CE office. Use the gloves provided. Empty the plastic container, put a trash liner in it and sprinkle the spill with a package of absorbent powder. Brush up the powderb, spray disinfectant on the spot and dispose of the trash liner. Place the cleaning materials back in the container and leave a note with Pastor Nate who will contact the custodian to restock the clean-up container and re-clean the spot.

First-aid kits are available in the CE office (on the wall), in the preschool playroom (in the cupboard), in the nursery restroom & in the old kitchen (above the microwave).

BATHROOM MONITORING

The basic rule for bathroom monitoring is: always prop the door open when you are in the bathroom with a child. Let Pastor Nate know if we're missing any doorstops. See the guidelines for specific rules about how to monitor different aged children.

RUNNING ERRANDS

The copy machine and audio-visual units are in the CE office. Most craft supplies can be found in the Teacher Workroom. Extra forms (registration, guideline violation) can be found in the mailbox outside the CE office. Only qualified personnel are allowed to use the laminator and die-cutter. If you would like to become trained, please contact Jenni Maples at the church (756-3300).

NOTIFYING PARENTS

If you have to reach a parent for any reason (discipline, illness, crying little one), find the parents' location on the child's registration sheet in their room.

PRAYING FOR THE CLASSES

As you walk the halls, pray for the teachers and students, that God's Word will go forth with power, hearts will be healed and lives will be changed. Pray for people by name whenever possible.

THANK YOU!

Your servant heart and loving attitude will bless children, teachers & parents.
