Join the team that heals kids' hearts

We are always looking for more volunteers to help us minister in Christ's name to the children of Mansfield and the world. Please look through the information below and the following links to better understand what will be expected of you as a volunteer.

Requirements

These requirements must be met before any adult can serve in a position involving direct contact with children. There are other behind-the-scenes support positions that do not involve direct contact with children available as well. Requirements for teen volunteers are adjusted slightly. Please contact Pastor Nate for details.
  • Attended Berean for at least 6 months
  • Complete an application including three references and testimony of Christian conversion
  • Read and sign the guidelines
  • Background check based on fingerprints: Ohio residents for 5 years or more get a state-wide check; if an Ohio resident for less than 5 years, or if a paid employee, a national FBI check is run.
  • Attend training and get a photo ID badge.

There are two options for getting a background check:
  1. Go to the Richland County Sheriff's office (597 Park Ave. E. (former People's Hospital) 774-5851). For $20 they will scan your prints on a computer and send them to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) who will mail the results to the church within the week. Keep your receipt and we will reimburse you!
  2. Stop by the church to pick up a fingerprint card(s). Go to any sheriff's department and have them take your prints with ink on the card. This usually costs $10. Bring the card to church and we'll send it to BCI&I and get the results in 2-3 weeks. Again, we'll reimburse you, so keep your receipt.
